Bacalhau à Brás (codfish)


This recipe is one of the most appreciated by the Portuguese. also one of the easiest and quickest to make. You can easily adapt the method and experiment with another fish or shredded chicken.



1 – onion (100g)
2 – garlic cloves
2 – tbsp olive oil
600 g shredded cod
200 g straw potato
6 – eggs
chopped parsley
50 g black olives
2 – bay leaves


1- Fry the potato sticks in very hot oil and set aside. Saute onions Garlic and Bay leaf until translucent (about 2 minutes) in olive oil.

2-  Add the cod and the potato chips and mix well. Let the potatoes soften a little.
3-  In a bowl, lightly beat the eggs with a fork.
4-  Add the eggs to the cod and mix until well connected and the eggs are cooked.
5-  Taste and fine-tune the seasonings. Serve the cod, sprinkled with parsley and olives.
